How to cancel Google Play subscriptions
Google Play subscriptions is a list of the app subscriptions Google Play bills, rather than one service. Here is where the cancel button lives, what you keep and lose, and what to check before and after.
Steps
- On your Android device, open subscriptions in Google Play and sign in to the Google Account that pays
- Select the subscription you want to cancel
- Tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions
Open Google Play subscriptions’s account page
What happens when you cancel
After you cancel, Google says you can keep using the subscription for the time you have already paid. It does not renew for the next period. A prepaid plan expires at the end of its period; an unused prepaid plan can be cancelled from the same list.
Pause or downgrade instead
Some Play subscriptions can be paused or changed from the same subscriptions list. A subscription with add-ons is cancelled together with those add-ons; Google says individual add-ons cannot be cancelled from Play.
Refunds
Google says past subscription charges are not refunded as a rule, with the exceptions in Google Play’s refund policies. Cancelling stops the next renewal. It is not itself a refund of the current period.
Before you cancel
- Sign in to the Google Account that bought the subscription. A family member’s account will not show yours. If the app has been removed from Play, Google says future renewals are cancelled, but past charges follow the refund policy.
- If you pay through Apple, Google Play, Amazon or a phone bundle, cancel there; the provider’s own page will not let you.
- Check the renewal date and any notice deadline first. Complete cancellation before that deadline and check the confirmed access end date.
After you cancel
- Keep the confirmation email. If a charge appears later, it is your proof.
- Access normally continues until the end of the paid period, then stops.
- Check the next card statement once, to be sure the charge is gone.
Questions about cancelling Google Play subscriptions
How do I cancel a Google Play subscription?
On the Android device, open subscriptions in Google Play, select the subscription, tap Cancel subscription and follow the instructions.

No. Google’s help says uninstalling the app does not cancel the subscription.
